Montana’s Model Stream Access Laws Under Fire?

Say it ain’t so.

We’re still in research mode after receiving this painful email from the Madison Gallatin TU last night……

(Apologies for the image file sizes – but this is worth putting up as sent.)

As things political most often do, it gets even worse……

Montana’s 26 year old stream access law has been held up for years as a model of fairness and equity.  This bill has popped up as somewhat of a surprise, and obviously has been crafted without input from fly fishers / fishers / sportsmen in the state.  Clearly the damned thing has the potential to dramatically impact access given the act of redefining waters (see the first paragraph in the second part above).

Read the PDF of the current bill here.

Montanans – find your House members contact data here.

Find a rep to contact here – input and comments from fly fishers everywhere will be much appreciated.

Never thought we’d see the day that such a broad redefinition of waterways could potentially impact access in Montana…..damn.  We’re working on finding out more….
