Wow, this fall is really going by fast. It always seems that right about now is when I realize I didn’t do as much fishing this fall as I wanted to. But, if Mark and I did do all the fishing we wanted, this site would never be updated. It’s a trade off.
The Beaverhead is fishing pretty good these days. Flows are still up, almost 320 cfs at Barretts this morning. Most fish these days are being taken on nymphs. Egg patterns, scuds, princes, pheasant tails and the ever useful soft hackle have been the most productive. On cloudy days, the streamer bite has been great. Dark olive and black are the predominant colors.
Speaking of cloudy days, the BWO hatch can be pretty damn good. The bugs are very small this time of year, but you better fish dries while you still can. Swinging a couple of soft hackles during the hatch works too.
