A fair number of the folks who fish the Missouri year round over here are describing the river these days as being stuck in a holding pattern.
I’d agree.
I don’t give a damn what the calendar says – as in it’s supposed to be early fall – it’s pretty much still summer over here with highs all week pushing 90 or better, though that’s about to change for a day or two come Sunday. Looks like it’s going to warm back up quickly though.

Fishing options haven’t changed a whole hell of a lot since last week or even the week before; the river is nymphing well, though best up right below the dam. There are lots of Tricos, midges and pseudos; a few Caddis and October Caddis, though the olives really aren’t rolling yet and won’t until the weather is more like October than summer. Terrestrials? Yeah, but don’t expect a fish every cast.
Crowds are down though we might see some tubers this Saturday as hot as it’s been.
Holding Pattern is a CT based band I caught last winter on the east coast – not a bad collection.
