The Madison is fishing well right now.  Even the Lower is starting to come around.  Water temps are cooling off, and flows have come back up on the Upper river, allowing for better floating options.

Like I said, the Lower is coming around. Water temps are the main factor, and they are really starting to cool off.  The cooler nights have helped, and the next few days are not going to be in the 90s, which is also going to be quite a blessing.  Most of the tubers have gone, but you will still find some out and about on the weekends.  If you really want to fish the Lower right now, hike back into Bear Trap away from all the people.

Aside from a little more water, the Upper is fishing about the same as last week.   Terrestrials (hoppers, beetles and ants) are all going great guns.  Look for some ant flights closer to Ennis.  Caddis in the evenings, scattered mayfly hatches both in the morning and evenings.  Look for the big fish in the deeper runs in the middle of the river.
