A good friend was on the upper yesterday and he and his party were absolutely pounded by a heavy rain and hail storm.  It’s part of the game fishing up here in August, and there will likely be more of the same today.

Flows have bumped at Corwin Springs and near Livingston this morning; there was a small bump on the Gardiner and a bigger bump on the Lamar, so there’s probably a mud plug to move through as well (hard to tell off the Cool Works web cam this morning early).  Clarity issues will depend on today’s rains as well.

All that said, there are still Yellow Sallies and Caddis up high and off and on again action on hoppers and terrestrials up and down the river.  Be ready to toss a streamer or nymph deep down lower.

Should be a great August on the Yellowstone, though clarity will be an issue for the next several days.
