The Bitterroot is in fine fettle these days and is fishing from top to bottom, though to be perfectly honest I’ve been fishing the Forks and the upper third almost exclusively the past week or so.

There’s a lot to choose from hatch wise – there are still some PMDs around, Yellow Sallies, and even terrestrials (don’t forget your beetles).

The big time game is the late Caddis hatch though – most of the folks are off the water by 7, and that’s when things have really been getting started.  We’ve had our very best window in the last hour of sunlight and for about 30 to 45 minutes past sunset.  Frankly I’ve been so damned tired of catching fish by then I’ve been walking off the water with fishable light still left.

Don’t believe me?  Good.  Go eat your burger, get refused by a waitress or two, drink a few beers – I’ll stay out and catch those big ones with your name on ‘em.
