
First of all, Happy Independence Day! Take some time to celebrate our country and all that it means to be free.
Secondly, I hope you aren’t planning on celebrating by fishing the Yellowstone in the park. The river right below the lake does not open until the 15th. The canyons are slowly getting into fishable shape. A buddy of mine was in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone a few days ago, dragging a big stonefly nymph near the banks with good success. Big stonefly nymphs are your best bet right now.
Flows at this point are not going up so much, but are still high. As you can see from the chart, they are still above the 80th percentile. The river should really start to fish well in a week or so. We’ll keep you updated.
