The Pedestrian Life: A Pedestrian Evening on the Gallatin

Back on the 18th of June a post I wrote about living the pedestrian life as the family black sheep resonated with a fair number of our readers – it would seem that a fair number of fly fishing folks out there live black sheep, pedestrian lives as well.

Welcome to the fold.

Those of us writing here at Chi Wulff have decided the pedestrian life is indeed our life, and we’re going to be sharing more pedestrian bits and pieces over time – we’re even creating a new category on the blog – The Pedestrian Life.

My yesterday was spent chasing down odds and ends in the office and dealing with a long, drawn out exercise at the bank – one of those things that should have taken 10 minutes and ends up taking 120.  Then it was furniture shopping with The One Who Must Be Obeyed.  I really didn’t think we needed a new couch, but when a recent visitor disappeared from sight sinking into the worn out cushions, I knew she would (and did) win the argument.

By the time the work was done in the office, the errands run, and dinner cooked – it was already 630 and too late for a drive to ‘trophy water’.  We’d also had an impressive thunderstorm and it was still raining, with thunder rolling in off the Gallatins.

So what’s a guy to do but go fish what many consider to be very pedestrian water in the neighborhood – the Gallatin.

It was still raining, and the water stained….

There were fish to be had (nymphing)…..

The sun finally came back out……

A very pedestrian time was had by all.

Mark,
I have been spending a many pedestrian evenings on the east gallatin. She is fishing pretty good. You gotta love it! Does mountain dew and a snickers work for a meal?

The East is indeed fishing very well – thankfully many of the highbrow, part time residents of the neighborhood don’t even know that the East exists.

Your meal choice makes for fine pedestrian fare – though I often save Snickers for my more upscale pedestrian compadres. I find it’s also much better if you carry the Snickers in a vest pocket for a few hours on a hot day and make sure it’s more liquid than solid as you squeeze it out and slurp it down…..
