Like the Firehole this year, the Park section of the Madison is off to a great start.

What a great array of hatching bugs right now.  Pending the cloud cover PMDs have been rolling off typically starting around 1-2 in the afternoon, with decent (though spotty) baetis on the cloudy, showery / stormy days.

Caddis are coming off a bit later; there has been an odd Drake and lingering Salmonfly reported this week as well.

The river has cleared nicely over the past couple of weeks, and has been running at or just below seasonal flow averages until yesterday when a rain induced spike pushed flows close to 800 cfs.

Even after a full day on other waters we find it damned hard not to stop every time we’re headed back to WY, just for ‘five minutes’…….
