The Gallatin has had an interesting week. Several days ago, Mark and I drove up the canyon a ways and were surprised at how much better the water looked. Not perfect by any means, but not chocolate milk either. The rain over the past few days is starting to filter down to the river, which will push flows and muddy the water again.
As of this writing, the water above Taylor Fork is probably your best bet. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could find some stretches below there that are fishable, though. The lower river is going to be a mess for a few more days. You might be able to dredge some fish up with either a black streamer or a large stonefly nymph.

Given that the forecast looks rather rainy for a few more days, I wouldn’t count on the river dropping for a while.
