Slough Creek Fly Fishing Report 13 June 2009: Getting Closer

sloughcgsmall609If you were to drive into the Park today, head for the Tower area and wander northeastward up the Northeast Entrance road, and finally head north to the Slough Creek campground today (one of our favs) – you’d see some beautiful country and some tempting water right there by the campground.

River flows in the northeast corner have begun to fall this week in earnest thanks to the cool weather (cooler than normal) the area has enjoyed for more than a week now;  I’d bet you a dozen flies of your choice this morning that someone will be fishing the river right by the campground and wondering why they’re not ‘catching fish’ out of the very cold and stained water.

New snow from last week’s storm will likely push flows up as it melts off over the next few warmer days.

The Park’s guys are saying Slough (and Soda) won’t fish until the first week of July or later; it’s really weather dependent in some respects, though you might find the waters fishable in a couple of weeks.

For fly fisher folk there’s much better water right now.
