Madison (YNP) River Fly Fishing Report 12 June 2009: Better and Better

Three key things are happening on the Madison in the Park right now to make things interesting.  Flows are dropping, pretty rapidly this week in fact.  Water temps are warming to the range that make fish much more happy (and active).

Finally, the early season hatches are beginning to cook on the Madison.  PMDs have been making their presence known mid to late afternoon.  Caddis should make their appearance here this week as long as the weather continues to offer sunny and warm days – the weathermen are cooperating in that regard.   Giant Stones should be showing up anytime as well.  During the showers that Yellowstoner (and the rest of us) are so fond of, you might just see some baetis as well.

There’s been a bear active around the Talus Slide and upper Haynes; my next door neighbor was run off again Wednesday evening very near there.
