What a difference a few days can make.
The Park section of the Madison has cleared quite a bit since last weekend – visibility is now at least 2 feet, and you could argue that it’s even better. Flows have been a genuine guessing game for quite a while as the gage station wasn’t working just outside the Park. The gage is now reporting data (back up on the 27th) and flows have been peaking around 1200 cfs with the mean for this week in the vicinity of 1000 cfs.
A talented fishing friend was up from SLC on Wednesday and did quite well on big buggy nymphs, streamers and the devil worm. He noted that almost all of his fish were fooled deep on the slack side of seams and in larger eddy pools; I know he fished much of his Madison day from Barnes down.
With both Gibbon and Madison flows down a little bit, things could improve a bit more, though we’re all expecting the hot weather due today to push more water into the system. Cooling temps next week could really help slow flows down…….
